3DScanCo Taps Industry Vetern Ken Shain

Top ex-exec at Geovision, Cyco and Mensi to advise engineering services leader in construction of 3D data capture and modeling service channel.

Atlanta, Georgia - February 9, 2007 - 3DScanCo, the fastest growing 3D data capture and modeling service bureau in North America, has reached agreement with industry veteran Ken Shain to advise and assist it in its growth plans. The company, specializing in capturing and creating accurate 3D computer models of nearly all types of subject material, will retain Mr. Shain's services to help them to develop and implement a strategy that will extend its services nationally in the 3D design and engineering marketplace. The Atlanta-based company delivers detailed surface data, exotic geometries and parametric models to clients with unprecedented speed and accuracy anywhere in the world.

Karol Hatzilias, President of 3DScanCo, said, "In order for 3DScanCo to excel in this industry, we must continue to attract people with vision and experience as well as the technical credentials to help us fulfill client needs. Ken gives us all of that and also delivers his uncanny ability to understand what people want and need to get things done, a vital skill that is needed to expand our business."

Mr. Shain has over 25 years of related senior level executive management experience having started, built, turned around and positioned for sale numerous companies in the technology marketplace. Mr. Shain is well-known for his pioneering work in CD-based desktop mapping in 1985 as the founder, chairman and CEO of GEOVISION, Inc. of Norcross, Georgia. After selling the company, Mr. Shain joined EDM/PDM leader CYCO International, of Atlanta, Georgia, as its President in 1995 and led a 3½ year multi-million dollar turnaround. He achieved recognition from the business community for his trailblazing work in business process engineering in 1998 by earning the Arthur Andersen Best Business Practices Award. In 1999, Mr. Shain launched MENSI, Inc., a supplier of 3D laser scanners and 3D modeling software, for the French power giant EDF, establishing its international presence and key customer accounts as he positioned the company for sale to Trimble Navigation. Ken also publishes Beam Strings, an on-line engineering executive analysis newsletter.

"3DScanCo has risen in the market right at its sweet spot, and they are good," said Mr. Shain. "Typically, after a solution driven innovation hits the market, there is a 3-5 year window for service companies to gather in business before resulting solutions can be commoditized."

"In this case, SolidWorks' announcement of support for the a priori 3D data capture customer will drive the market for services for several years to come, perhaps even a little longer, given the complexity of the component tasks and availability of work to be done," mused Mr. Shain. "Besides, they are articulate and bright and clean. Fun to work with too. I mean, that's a storybook, man."
