AGCO Mini Case Study
Client: AGCO
SITUATION
3D Scan Data
AGCO, one of the world's largest distributors of agricultural equipment, needed to recreate to key components
of an engine coupler. The two large gears had combined cast and machined surfaces. At the time AGCO contacted
3DScanCo no CAD model of the coupler parts existed. The two parts to the coupler actually nest together and
when in use the gear teeth mesh with each other.
SOLUTION
CAD Model of Coupler
AGCO contracted 3DScanCo to reverse engineer the two parts. 3DScanCo used high accuracy 3d laser scanning to
capture all the dimensions of the two parts. After scanning the two individually, both were scanned meshed
together. This was done to accomplish a process called digital assembly where the files are digitally stitched
back together to match the physical interactive state. The aligned scan files were then reverse engineered in
to create a parametric Pro/E model.
RESULTS
This project resulted in a successful reverse engineered Pro/E model of the two engine coupler parts. AGCO was able to use the Pro/E models to create new coupler parts. AGCO was also able to use the parametric nature of the final files to include design optimizations and include the parts in assembly drawings.
