The CAD Workshop Mini Case Study
Client: The CAD Workshop
SITUATION
The CAD Workshop, a Dassault Systemes training company, needed to obtain CAD data of an aircraft lightbulb unit, which consists of an assembly of 9 separate parts. Before creating a CATIA assembly model, 3DScanCo's challenge was in correctly orienting and aligning the 9 sets of scan data to create an accurate representation of the entire lightbulb unit.
SOLUTION
3D Scan Data
After capturing accurate scan data of each part, 3DScanCo used digital assembly techniques to combine the 9
sets of scan data into one oriented and aligned scan model. From here, each individual piece was modeled
to their original design intent and fit into the original alignment, thus creating 1 CATIA V5 assembly file
that contained all 9 part models.
RESULTS
CATIA Assembly
The CAD Workshop ended up with a complete CATIA CATProduct file that contained accurate CAD data of the
aircraft lightbulb unit. They can now use this data for training purposes and can assemble and disassemble
the entire lightbulb assembly digitally.
