Choosing the Right Accuracy

Please choose the accuracy level with which the 3D scan data is required to match the physical part.

Accuracy refers to the quoted accuracies of the 3D scan data obtained compared to the actual part. The standard quoted accuracy for 3D scanners is .002" or .05mm (50 microns), though higher accuracy scanning is available.

Accuracy of models to 3D scan data is on a sliding scale from exactly matching (raw scan data) to non-matching (parametric models). Parametric Models, and to a lesser extent, Hybrid Models, are non-matching because the goal is not to match the particular part that was scanned but to create an ideal model that matches the "as-designed" part, i.e. the original CAD data that was used to manufacture it.
