Handyscan 3D REVscan Laser Scanner

So Easy a Caveman Could Use It

Handheld scanners have long required external tracking devices such as robotic arms to track their position. This makes even handheld scanners difficult to work with at times due to the cumbersome nature of these devices.

Our Thoughts

The Handyscan 3D laser scanners are ideal for scanning projects that require accurately capturing the shape of low curvature objects without the inconvenience of setting up tripods, tracking arms, and photogrammetry rigs. Even though the standard resolution limits its ability to efficiently scan in high detail, the REVscan version can get around this by scanning smaller sections in greater detail. Consequently, the REVscan laser scanner performs well as long as the goal is to capture the overall shape and not the intricate details.

3DScanCo has had success using Handyscan 3D scanners to scan car bodies, household products such as a smoke detector, boat hulls, and even sections of a Boeing 757. Although the native photogrammetry system is not optimal for scanning entire objects larger than a typical car, it is intuitive and works great for small to medium sized objects.

You will see the most benefit with the REVscan if your projects involve:

  • Large or low curvature parts
  • Less emphasis on scan resolution
  • Free form shapes
  • Reverse engineering
  • Objects ranging in size from a breadbox to a typical car
