Our Thoughts

The VIVID 9i is ideal for projects that require highly accurate scanning of areas accessible by a tripod-mounted scanner. The PSC-1 Photogrammetry system is an incredibly powerful tool for using the VIVID 9i to accurately scan objects that lack defining geometry such as car body panels or other large, broad objects. Because the VIVID 9i is tripod-mounted, its ability to scan in hollow and hard-to-reach areas is limited; however this can sometimes be solved by unique solutions such as mirrors or molds.

3DScanCo has had success using the VIVID 9i to scan almost every type of object - cars, turbine blades, boats, even 12 mm tall pewter figurines. Although the limited mobility of the VIVID 9i prevents it from scanning tight spaces, 3DScanCo has developed solutions for scanning the hard-to-reach areas (such as the floorboards of a car) by setting up a series of mirrors and setting the focal length accordingly.

The VIVID 910 - A Less Expensive Alternative

The VIVID 910 is a high speed, portable, and easy-to-use 3D laser scanning system. While the VIVID 9i performs best at capturing high detail areas of non-moving objects, the VIVID 910 is best suited for scanning sections of artwork, sculptures, faces, etc. It is capable of scanning 307,000 points in 2.5 seconds, or 77,000 points in 0.3 points while in fast mode. This enables you to accurately scan faces and other life-like objects that are prone to moving. With an accuracy of 220 microns (0.0087 inches) and max resolution of 400 microns (0.0016 inches), the VIVID 910 offers quality scanning for its targeted applications.
